Biography:

Dr. Alexandros Garyfallos is a distinguished figure in Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology, currently serving as Professor and Chairman of the 4th Department of Internal Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), located at Hippokration General Hospital in Greece. He embarked on his academic journey by graduating from the Medical School of AUTh in 1981, followed by the completion of his Ph.D. in November 1985, also at AUTh. In July 2008, he was appointed as a Professor of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology at AUTh.

Dr. Garyfallos's career spans significant roles and contributions within the academic and administrative realms. Notably, from January to November 1994, he served as a Research Fellow at the Rheumatology Unit of Guy's Hospital in London, further enriching his expertise in the field.

At AUTh, Dr. Garyfallos is actively involved in various capacities. He represents the Medical Department at the Senate of AUTh and has been a member of the Special Training Committee for the past 15 years, contributing to the development of future policies for the Medical School. He has also been instrumental as a member of the Postgraduate Committee since its inception in 2002, shaping the educational landscape in his field.

Dr. Garyfallos's commitment to academic excellence is evident through his extensive involvement in doctoral and master's education. He has supervised or served as a member of Examination Committees for 22 Doctoral Dissertations and 19 Master Theses, guiding and evaluating the work of numerous aspiring scholars.

In recognition of his leadership and expertise, Dr. Garyfallos was elected Vice President of the Medical Department at AUTh in June 2011, a role he held until July 2013 when he was appointed as President, a position he continues to hold with distinction since December 2017. These leadership roles underscore his influence in shaping the direction of medical education and research at AUTh.

Throughout his career, Dr. Alexandros Garyfallos has demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing medical knowledge, fostering academic growth, and shaping the future of healthcare through his multifaceted roles in education, administration, and clinical practice.
