Mvalenzuela completed his B.Sc from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. He completed his Ph.D from Brandeis University, Waltham, MA and postdoctoral research in Biophysics from University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI. He is currently working as a professor of Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN and also as Adjucent Professor in School of Medicine, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. He has received several professional awards. He attended many international conferences. He published articles in many national and international journals.
His research interest mainly focuses on the initiation step of DNA replication in human cells. In particular, the global pattern of origin activation and its relationship to the cancer phenotype.
