Abdel-Badeh M Salem

Biography:

Prof. Dr. Abdel-Badeh M. Salem has been a professor emeritus of Computer Science since September 2007. He was a former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, from 1996 to 2007. He served as a full professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University from 1989 to 1996, and as the Director of the Scientific Computing Center at Ain Shams University from 1984 to 1990. In 1996, he moved to the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at the same university. He has published around 400 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings in various areas. He has been involved in more than 500 conferences and workshops as a keynote speaker, member of international program committees, organizer, and session chair. He is the author and co-author of 25 books in English and Arabic.

He was one of the founders of the following events: the First Egyptian Workshop on Expert Systems in 1987, the International Cairo Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications in 1992, and the International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Information Systems in 2002. He was also a key supporter of the annual International Romanian Internet Learning Workshop Project (RILW) since 1997. Additionally, he served as Secretary of the Egyptian Computer Society (1984-1990), member of the National Committee in Informatics at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (1992-2000), member of the Egyptian Committee in the Inter-Governmental Informatics Program, IIP-UNESCO, Paris (1988-1990), and coordinator of the Annual International Conference for Statistics, Scientific Computing, and Social and Demographic Research (1983-1990). He was also a partner in the MEDCAMPUS Projects on Methodologies and Technologies for Distance Education in the Mediterranean (1993-1995).

He is a member of various international scientific societies, including the American Association of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), USA; the British Computer Society, Expert Systems Specialist Group (SGES); the International Neural Network Society (INNS), USA; the Association for the Advancement of Computing Education (AACE), USA; the International Society for Computers and Their Applications (ISCA), NC, USA, since December 1995; the International Society for Telemedicine & e-Health (ISfTeH), Switzerland; the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Technical Committee WG 12.5, Knowledge-Oriented Development of Applications, Austria (since 2000); and the International Association for Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) TC on AI and Expert Systems, Canada (since 2000). He was elected as a member of the Euro Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences (EMAAS) on September 25, 2015, in Athens, Greece, and is a member of Alma Mater Europaea of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Belgrade, since January 2016.
