Ahmed Moustafa Hassan El Nemr

Biography:

Prof. Ahmed Moustafa Hassan El Nemr is a Professor in the Marine Pollution Department, Environment Division, National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Alexandria, where he has been working since 1989. He is also the National Coordinator of IODE for Data Management (IOC-UNESCO) (2005-2016) and the Focal point of Egypt for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (FAO-ASFA) database (UNESCO) (2007-2015). Ahmed has a BSc. in Chemistry, an MSc. in Organic Chemistry, and a PhD of Engineering in Applied Chemistry. His research interests include marine pollution, aquatic science, and oceanographic data management. Ahmed has extensive experience in the synthesis of organic compounds, the analysis of environmental samples for pollutants, and the use of various instruments such as HPLC, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Mass spectrometry. He is also skilled in website development and has experience with various computer programs, including ArcExplorer, SPSS, and Gaussian.

Research Interests:

Prof. Ahmed Moustafa Hassan El Nemr's research interests include developing new methods for synthesizing carbohydrates and natural compounds, as well as isolating and testing natural compounds from marine algae for anti-viral properties. He also studies the chemical modification of chitin and chitosan, membrane preparation for desalination and wastewater treatment, and the development of new activated carbon from agricultural waste. Prof. El Nemr is interested in removing pollutants such as dyes and heavy metals from water using various materials and synthesizing nanometals composite with cellulose and chitosan, and carbon nanotubes for wastewater treatment. He also studies advanced oxidation and photo degradation for wastewater treatment, and investigates the distribution of pollutants such as petroleum hydrocarbons and heavy metals in the Mediterranean and Red Seas in Egypt. Prof. El Nemr also researches oil spill and machine oil treatment technologies.
