Biography:

Dr. Qasem, a Professor of Weed Science at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. His studies included the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences from Aleppo University, Syria , and the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Weed Science, Department of Plant Production and Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jordan, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Plant Physiology/ Weed Science, Department of Biological Sciences, University of London, UK.

Dr. Qasem main duties include planning and conduction of scientific research and teaching in the fields of Weed Science, Plant Physiology and Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. Dr. Qasem is an author for many research papers and book chapters published in refereed international journals and scientific books. He is an author of four textbooks, Plant Science, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, He contributed to many regional and world congresses, and has many scientific research reports and paper abstracts. Dr. Qasem supervised and directed thesis work for many graduate students, and contributed as an examiner for many in Jordan and abroad. He is an award of the Shoman Foundation Prize for Youth Arab Researchers in Agricultural Science, Hisham Hijjawi Award in Agriculture and Water. University of Jordan for his outstanding scientific research achievements and teaching excellence, University of Jordan Prize for the Best and Outstanding Academic Book in Applied Sciences in 2004, Agricultural Engineers Association Prize in Publication, Scientific Research and Extension, 2006, and the Distiquished Researcher Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Dr Qasem is a founder of the International Allelopathy Society, Asian Allelopathy Society and Near East Weed Science Society, a life member of the International Weed Science Society , member of the Weed Science Society Japan, International Parasitic Weed Society, the Arab Society for Plant Protection and EWRS Working Group/ Weed Management in Irrigated Vegetables. He is an editor for many international journals. Dr. Qasem invited and traveled to present his work over the globe.

Research Interests:

His research interest mainly focuses on weed control, herbicides, competition, allelopathy, parasitic flowering plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, weed ecophysiology.
