Adriana Dornelles

Biography:

Dr. Adriana Dornelles is a biostatistician whose work has focused on the examination of the social determinants of health. Originally from Brazil, she received her master’s degree in labor economics from the Catholic University of Brasilia and earned her doctoral degree in biostatistics from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, LA. Her current research interests have focused on the relationship between the aspects of the local food environment and health behaviors and outcomes. She also works as a statistical consultant performing statistical analyses for researchers and M.Ds. in the fields of behavioral sciences, education, and medical research. Her research has been published in many scientific journals, such as PLoS ONE, Journal of Hypertensive and Journal of Ultrasound Medicine, among many others. The results of her last publication “Impact of multiple food environments on body mass index” gained a lot of visibility on the media, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Research Interests:

Dr. Dornelles’ research interests lie in hierarchical models, applied regression analysis, Bayesian and spatial analyses. Her research emphasis is on the link of food environments and body mass index (BMI), food consumption and behavior. She also analyzes the spatial distribution of ethnic food retailer and immigrants BMI.
