Sk. Akhtar Ahmad is a Senior Professor and Researcher of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS), Bangladesh. His teaching experience is about 35 years and his field of interests is occupational health & safety and environmental health & pollution. Prof Akhtar is one of the pioneers to conduct research in the field of occupational and environmental health issues in Bangladesh especially the groundwater arsenic contamination and its health effects. He has about 100 published articles in the national and international journals and contributed in a number of books and reports on public health published from home and abroad. He supervised and guided many theses on occupational and environmental health issues of MPH, MPhil and Ph.D. students. Before joining in BUHS Prof Akhtar was the Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health and Director of National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM), Dhaka.
