Michael G Ehrlich

Biography:

Dr. Ehrlich has been a distinguished figure in orthopaedic research for over 46 years, mentoring students at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital for 18 years, followed by 28 years at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. His expertise lies in osteoarthritis and degradative enzyme systems. During his tenure, he held the Vincent Zecchino Professorship and chaired the department, significantly expanding the research program from a single investigator to approximately 15 Ph.D.s. Under his leadership, the lab now ranks #2 in the nation for NIH and foundation funding.

Many of Dr. Ehrlich's senior investigators started as assistant professors and have progressed to full professors, securing multiple RO1s or major VA grants. He chaired the Research Committees for both the Academic Orthopaedic Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons from 1993 to 1999. Additionally, he served twice as a permanent member of the Study Section on Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Since 1993, he has been on the Oral Examination Committee for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Ehrlich has received numerous accolades, including the M.A. Ad Eundem award at Brown University, the Excellence in Research Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the prestigious Kappa Delta Award for the best orthopedic research in the United States. His contributions to Pediatric Orthopedics were recognized with the Huene Award. He has also held leadership roles as President of the Orthopaedic Research Society and the Academic Orthopaedic Society.

He is a prolific author, with over 200 publications including books, journal articles, and abstracts. His work has garnered significant attention with a total citation count of 17,584, an H-index of 64, and an I 10-Index of 180, reflecting his profound impact on the field of orthopaedic research.

Research Interests:

His research interests include limb lengthening physiology, neuromuscular disorders in children and growth plate transplantation, osteoarthritis, cartilage and distraction osteogenesis.
