John Yahya I Elshimali

Biography:

Dr. Elshimaliis Professor of Medicine and Pathology at Charles Drew University and UCLA Medical School. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty in Surgical Pathology, Molecular and Genetic Medicine.

He is an expert on Liquid Biopsy for Circulating biomarkers including tumor cells, cell-free DNA and RNA. Dr. Elshimali has played an important role in biomarker research at the Division of Cancer Research at CDU/UCLA. His research focuses on DNA MicroArrayandTissueMicroArray (TMA) development for multiplex histological analysis on tissue sections and clinical translational research for optimal application on pharmaceutical world.

Dr.Elshimali serves as team leader inspector for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and is a member of many professional societies including CAP, ASCP, AACR, Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) and American Society for Human Genetics (ASHG). Dr. Elshimali is editor for several peer-reviewed journals and he is international speaker with an impressive repertoire of publications including book chapters, abstracts, articles, and case reports.

Research Interests:

His research interests mainly focuses on:

  • Clinical translated cancer research – cancer disparity-focusing on breast, colon and prostate cancers
  • Developing data base for tumor signatures using genomic proteomics next generation sequencing and mass spectrometry
  • Pharmaceuticals/Clinical trials
